On February 23, Beijing time, the second day of the 2025 National Indoor Athletics Grand Prix (4th leg) and the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 Test Event commenced at the "Nanjing's Cube". Many top athletes gathered at the men's 60m hurdles final field, which became the focus of the event.
Ultimately, Jiangsu athlete Liu Junxi seta personal best of 7.47 seconds on home ground, clinching a strong victory. This performance also makes him the closest domestic hurdler to Liu Xiang in the men's 60m hurdles event (Liu Xiang's personal best in the 60m hurdles is 7.41 seconds, which was set at the 2012 Birmingham Indoor Athletics Championships).
At the previous 2025 National Indoor Athletics Grand Prix (2nd leg) men's 60m hurdles, Liu Junxi set a personal best of 7.53 seconds to win and qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Nanjing this March. This achievement also places Liu Junxi second in the history of Chinese men's 60m hurdles.
"Today's condition was great, and I performed well. Competing at home makes it even more exciting," said Liu Junxi, after setting a new personal best on home ground. He mentioned that the "Nanjing's Cube" venue is very professional and this event was also a chance to familiarize himself with the venue ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 in March.
When asked about being the "closest domestic hurdler to Liu Xiang in the men's 60m hurdles event," Liu Junxi said it served as great motivation for him. He plans to train steadily and diligently, aiming to perform at his best at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25.
Notably, in this competition, Hubei athlete Zhu Shenglong set a personal best of 7.56 seconds to win the silver medal and qualify for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25; "Liu Xiang's junior", Xu Zhuoyi, took the bronze medal with a time of 7.59 seconds.
It is reported that from March 21 to 23, the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 will take place at the newly opened "Nanjing's Cube". As a top-tier global indoor athletics event, its influence extends globally. Approximately 600 top athletes from about 150 countries and regions will gather in Nanjing to compete for championship trophies in various events at the "Nanjing's Cube".
