“China’s Hurdles Queen” WU Yanni Competes in Nanjing

From March 21 to 23, 2025, the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 will be held as scheduled. One of the biggest highlights is WU Yanni, a Chinese hurdling superstar, competing on home turf. She will take on the world’s best in the women’s 60m hurdles, including a strong challenge from Japan’s Yumi Tanaka.

WU Yanni has made a name for herself in the 100m hurdles, earning international recognition with her incredible speed and determination. In 2023, she won silver at the World Athletics Championships, marking a major breakthrough in her career. 2024 was an even bigger year—she won gold at the Chengdu FISU World University Games and another gold at the Athletics World CupBerlin, proving China’s strength in sprint hurdles. She has also performed exceptionally well in domestic competitions, winning the women’s 100m hurdles title at the 2023 China’s National Athletics Championships and the women’s 60m hurdles title at the 2024 China’s National Indoor Athletics Championships.

Recently, WU claimed first place at the 2025 National Indoor Athletics Grand Prix (Leg 4) in Nanjing with a time of 8.16 seconds. She later improved her season-best to 8.10 seconds at China’s National Indoor Championships. On March 23, the first round of the women’s 60m hurdles will begin.
