New French Record! Marie-Julie Bonnin Wins Women’s Pole Vault Gold

On March 22, 2025 (Beijing time), the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 continued. In the fiercely contested women’s pole vault final held in the morning, French athlete Marie-Julie Bonnin delivered an outstanding performance, clearing 4.75 meters to claim the gold medal. Not only did she achieve a personal best, but she also set a new national record. Tina Šutej and Angelica Moser finished second and third, both clearing 4.70 meters. British pole vault star Molly Caudery narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place.

“I didn’t expect to break both my personal best and the national record at the same time. My performance has been stable this season, so this competition was the perfect opportunity to push my limits!” Bonnin said. As a rising star in women’s pole vault, she was selected for the French national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Facing top competitors in this event, she put on a spectacular performance, creating many thrilling moments and wrapping up her journey in Nanjing on a high note.

Silver medalist Tina Šutej praised the competition venue, saying, “I’m really happy to compete at the ‘Nanjing’s Cube.’ I love the track here. It’s smooth, has great elasticity, and helps athletes perform well!” Meanwhile, bronze medalist Angelica Moser reflected on her connection with Nanjing: “I competed here at the 2014 Youth Olympics. Now, more than ten years later, I’m back with another medal for my country. This city holds a lot of special memories for me!”

Last year’s champion, British athlete Molly Caudery, who won with a height of 4.80 meters, finished fourth this time. Though she missed out on a medal, she remained optimistic about her future: “I’ll make the most of every competition to keep learning and training, working towards regaining consistency in my performance!”

In the evening session, China’s LIANG Xiaojing will take on Jamaican star Natasha Morrison, while Chinese hurdlers LIU Junxi and QIN Weibo will challenge U.S. superstar and world record holder Grant Holloway. Meanwhile, Sweden’s “Pole Vault King” Armand Duplantis will aim for his third indoor world championship title.
