On the evening of March 22, 2025, the men’s 3000m final took place at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, one of the most highly anticipated athletes, surged ahead in the final 100 meters to claim victory with a time of 7:46.09, setting a new season best (SB). Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi finished close behind in 7:46.25, also setting an SB, while Australia’s Ky Robinson secured third place with 7:47.09.
Dubbed the “future king of middle- and long-distance running”, the 24-year-old Olympic champion and world record holder has been a dominant force in the sport. Ingebrigtsen holds the men’s 3000m world record and is the first person in history to run under 7:20 in the event. Since making his international debut in 2017, his incredible talent has propelled him to the top, earning him multiple world records and a reputation as a “gold medal machine”.
“I’ve competed in this championship before but didn’t win, so this victory means a lot to me,” Ingebrigtsen said in his post-race interview. “I have another race tomorrow, so my focus now is on preparing for the next challenge.” He also praised Nanjing, saying, “I’ve seen some stunning scenery here, but I’m staying focused on the competition. Hopefully, I’ll have time later to explore the city!”
A notable highlight from the race was China’s rising star SUN Ningkai, the only Chinese athlete in the field, who set a new personal best (PB). “It’s my first time in Nanjing, and the atmosphere is amazing. The crowd was incredibly supportive,” he shared.
