Christopher Bailey Leads U.S. Sweep in Men's 400m Final

On the evening of March 22, 2025, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25, Team USA dominated the men’s 400m final, sweeping the podium. Christopher Bailey claimed gold with a time of 45.08 seconds, while Brian Faust matched his personal best of 45.47 seconds to secure silver. Jacory Patterson took bronze with 45.54 seconds.

The American trio established their dominance early, taking the top three spots after the first 200 meters. Around the 300-meter mark, Bailey surged past Foster to take the lead and never looked back, securing victory.

Bailey, who helped Team USA break the Olympic record in the 4×400m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics, made his indoor debut in this race. “The track is smaller, but the moment I stepped onto it, I felt like I was back at the Olympics. The atmosphere here is absolutely electric!” he said. Speaking about Nanjing, he praised the city’s beauty: “I’d love to explore downtown if I get the chance, but first, I need to focus on preparing for tomorrow’s race.”

On the evening of March 23, Bailey will lead Team USA in the men’s 4×400m relay.

Earlier in the competition, China’s Ailixier Wumaier clocked 48.73 seconds in the first round but did not advance.
