On March 22, 2025, the second day of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 took place at the “Nanjing’s Cube”, with the men’s 60m hurdles final becoming the highlight of the evening.
Earlier in the semifinals, China’s LIU Junxi and QIN Weibo both advanced to the final, finishing first and second in their respective heats.
In the final, world record holder and American hurdling star Grant Holloway lived up to his reputation, clinching the gold medal with a time of 7.42 seconds. France’s Wilhem Belocian took silver in 7.54 seconds, while China’s rising star LIU Junxi secured bronze with 7.55 seconds. QIN Weibo finished eighth in 7.72 seconds.
“I just wanted to defend my honor and give my best. Winning gold is an incredible feeling!” Holloway said after the race. He also praised the “Nanjing’s Cube” for its excellent facilities and was deeply impressed by the enthusiastic crowd. Speaking about Nanjing, he added, “It’s such a beautiful city, and I can’t wait to explore it!”
For LIU Junxi, winning bronze at home was a meaningful achievement. “Earning a medal in front of a home crowd is special, but I’m not fully satisfied with my performance today,” he admitted. “I felt a little nervous, and I hope to perform at my best in future competitions.”
Yesterday, XIE Zhenye, one of China’s top sprinters, encouraged the younger generation of Chinese athletes to keep pushing forward on the world stage. In response, LIU Junxi vowed, “We will carry the baton and keep moving forward!”
