Tom Walsh Claims Men’s Shot Put Gold with a 21.65m Throw!

On the evening of March 23(Beijing time), at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25, New Zealand’s Tom Walsh won the men’s shot put gold medal with an impressive throw of 21.65m, setting a season’s best. USA’s Roger Steen followed closely in second place with a 21.62m throw, also setting his season’s best. USA’s Adrian Piperi secured the bronze medal with a 21.48m throw. Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Cornnell Enekwechi also had a personal breakthrough, setting a season’s best of 21.25m. China’s XING Jialiang finished in 13th place with a throw of 19.76m.

“I’m so happy to win the gold and set my season’s best after coming back from injury! The athletes and the atmosphere here are fantastic, which made this exciting competition possible!” Tom Walsh said after the event. Walsh took the lead with his first throw, recording 21.65m and securing the victory early on.

The performances of silver and bronze medalists were also impressive. Roger Steen and Adrian Piperi, both from the USA, supported each other throughout the competition. Adrian Piperi shared, “Roger and I stayed together during the preparation, and he helped me a lot. Our goal was to achieve good results together, and we did it!”Roger Steen also praised Nanjing: “I think Nanjing is a beautiful city. The people here are very friendly and helpful, so I’m really happy to be here!”

XING Jialiang, the Chinese competitor, also gained attention for his performance at his home event. He said, “This is my first time competing in such a world-class event. Competing with top athletes from around the world is a great step forward for me! In the future, I’ll continue to stay confident and keep improving!”
