On the evening of March 23(Beijing time), the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 featured an exciting women’s 800m final with six athletes competing and five of them breaking records! This became one of the biggest highlights of the night.
South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso claimed the gold medal with an impressive time of 1:58.40, securing the world’s best performance of the season. Ethiopia’s Nigist Getachew finished second with a time of 1:59.63, setting a personal best. Portugal’s Patricia Silva took third with 1:59.80, while Switzerland’s Audrey Wirro finished fourth with 1:59.81, both setting national records. Poland’s Anna Wielgosz also improved her personal best with a time of 2:00.34, finishing in fifth.
“I’m really happy with my performance today. Although I won the gold, I’m even more proud of myself, my coach, and my entire team!” said Sekgodiso in an interview after the race. She also shared her admiration for Nanjing: “Everything here is fantastic. The atmosphere is great, and the crowd is incredibly enthusiastic. I hope I get more opportunities to explore this beautiful city!”
