On the evening of March 23, the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 held the men’s long jump final on its last competition day. Italian athlete Mattia Furlani triumphed with a remarkable jump of 8.30 meters, claiming the gold medal. Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock finished as the runner-up with a leap of 8.29m, while Australia’s Liam Adcock secured third place with 8.28m. Chinese athlete SHU Heng finished sixth with a jump of 8.14m.
Mattia Furlani, a rising star in Italian long jump, shared his excitement about winning in Nanjing: “This is incredible for me. Last year, I competed in Shanghai, and I remember the beautiful stadium and the enthusiastic crowd. The full stadium was amazing for me. Today, I felt the same energy in Nanjing, and it was really fantastic.”
Greek athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the favorites for the event, unfortunately didn’t perform as expected, jumping 8.14m and finishing in fifth place. He expressed, “My form has not been good this season. I was sick for ten days earlier and then worked hard to recover, but the performance wasn’t quite there. I want to apologize to my fans and the audience, and I’ll continue to train hard for a better performance next time.”
After the competition, China’s SHU Heng shared his thoughts: “I know there’s still a big gap between me and the top athletes, so I focused more on my own performance. There are a few big events coming up this year, and I hope I can achieve a good result later on.”
